Humantay Lagoon located in the Vilcabamba mountain range of the Andes in southern Peru located about 260 km northwest of the city of Cusco. It invites us to make an unforgettable walk to the imposing and beautiful turquoise lagoon. The route shows in the distance an impressive mixture of the diversity of picturesque landscape from the highest glaciers in our area such as Humantay (5,917 meters-19,412 feet) and Salkantay (6217etros-20,396 feet) are glaciers found in the Vilcabamba mountain range located in the Cusco Region, northwest of the city of Cusco, sacred gods of the Incas. The melting of the Humantay glacier gives rise to the turquoise lake, known as Humantay Lake.

TRIP ITINERARY

Before your trip, the guide will come to your hotel from 1 to 2 days before, to give you the previous information and clarify any doubts or questions you may have before the trip.

LAGUNA HUMANTAY 01 DAY

We pick you up from your hotel at 04:30 am to begin your adventure to Lake Humantay, on the way we appreciate the flora and fauna of the route and if visitors wish we will make a brief stop to visit Tarawasi in Limatambo archaeological complex whose construction is attributed to the Inca Pachacútec, we arrive at the town of Mollepata, a small town where we will stop for a tasty local breakfast, then the bus trip will continue to Soraypampa (3850 meters – 12,631 feet); In Soraypampa we will have brief information and recommendations from the tour guide. From Soraypampa we will start our trek to Lake Humantay (4200 meters – 13779 feet) with beautiful views and if the sky is clear enough we can see the impressive snow-capped Salkantay and Humantay. It is a 2.00-hour walk up to the lake, accompanied by the natural and magical landscape. We will have enough time to take photos, leave an offering to the Apus, sitting on the edge of the lagoon we can savor a snack, seeing all the unimaginable nuances of its turquoise color. We will begin our descent to Soraypampa, in an approximate time of 1:30 hours and from there it will take us by bus for a time of 1:40 hours back to the town of Mollepata to enjoy a delicious lunch.

Return trip to Cusco 3 hours approx. we will leave you at your hotel.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE ON THE ROUTE?

 The weather in this region is unpredictable, where it can change frequently at any time of the year, having all the seasons of the year in a single day with extreme cold, wind, snow, rain and sun. Hikers should be prepared with the proper gear and be prepared for variable weather conditions throughout the day. However, the Cusco region has 2 marked seasons, the rainy season (September-April) and the dry season (May-August).
